Emily Fisher started as a treatment coordinator at CDS Monarch in November of 2014 in Without Walls (WOW) at our Webster Creative Opportunities (WCO) location. Emily's daily tasks include finding community placements for the Without Walls groups, training staff and assisting the individuals with their goals, among others. She is also in the process of transitioning to become the residence manager at our Thornell residence.
"Emily has great passion for community integration with Without Walls," WCO Site Manager Paula Hanna said. "She has worked hard over the past year to develop relationships within the community that have afforded the WOW individuals new experiences and friendships. The ones who stand out to me the most are joint efforts with Nazareth College and GCC's OT/PT and speech students. These students develop fun activities and learn hands on about the people we serve at CDS Monarch. So not only has Emily helped to foster friendships, but she has also helped to influence students in the field to seek employment opportunities within CDS Monarch."
Emily said her favorite aspect of working at CDS Monarch is "making a difference and having fun. I like to see people laugh, and even small growth is a huge accomplishment in my eyes."
In terms of advice to staff, Emily said, "working as a team is something to remember, as well as finding happiness and laughter."
In her spare time, Emily likes to take her two dogs to the park, hike and camp. She said she's hoping to go on a backpacking trip this summer.
Thank you, Emily, for your dedication to our mission and vision!
