By implementing the POMs, staff are provided with a new way to ask questions, and taught how to look at things from a unique perspective. This method allows an agency to look at the whole person, and more robustly assess how to best increase the quality of life for that individual.
Approximately 45 CDS Monarch staff members have already been able to attend a four-day workshop, to learn about conducting POMs Interviews and how to utilize the data for individual plan development and organizational trending for enhancement of quality services. So far, the trainings have been offered to staff members who are Directors, Residence Managers, Medicaid Service Coordinators and Treatment Coordinators, who have a direct role in plan development for individuals. CDS Monarch also has a certified POMs Interviewer and Trainer on staff - Kim Albert, Director of Program Quality. Kim has conducted the past three POMs workshops, with the next session coming up in April.
"The workshops and interview experiences were valuable," commented Madeleine Pingitore, Senior Medicaid Service Coordinator. "It provided an opportunity to get to know an individual really well, and it allowed them to share things that perhaps they wouldn't normally talk about. Since the workshops, I have also seen increased confidence in my coworkers when it comes to advocating for individuals in challenging situations."
